Modern Slavery Statement
Last updated: December 2025
At Big K Products Ltd, we are committed to operating ethically, sustainably, and responsibly.
We recognise that modern slavery, human trafficking, and hidden labour exploitation in any of its forms, are significant global issues that require our utmost attention and action. This
statement outlines our ongoing commitment to operating proactively to minimise any occurrences of modern slavery and human trafficking across all of our business activities, both
at home and internationally.
Although this is our first modern slavery statement, these issues have always been taken into consideration in our supply chain decision making process. As a company founded and guided
by family values of respect, trust and loyalty, we have always believed in treating our staff and all people that we interact with kindness and compassion. This transcends to not only our
internal relationships but everyone we interact with in the course of business.
Over the next year, we will provide awareness training to all our colleagues on the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and make suitable resources available to enable them to take appropriate
action if they suspect a case of slavery or human trafficking. We will also continue to do our own risk assessments and work with our suppliers in any areas identified as high risk to help
them better understand the anti-slavery activity they should be undertaking.
We are committed to maintaining best practice and to seeking continuous improvement. We invite you to help, share best practice and to hold us to account and challenge where you
think we can do better.
Our Business and Supply Chains.
The main activities of our business are:
- the import, distribution and packaging of charcoal products and associated barbeque
accessories and
- The preparation and packaging of firewood logs and coal products.
We currently operate out of two sites in the UK. A small warehouse in London which services customers inside the M25 and a larger site in Norfolk which is home to process and packaging
lines as well as warehousing and distribution.
In total we employ around 100 people and have a range of customers in the UK, such as restaurants, wholesalers, independent shops, supermarkets and direct to consumer.
Materials are sourced from around the world from carefully selected suppliers who are annually reviewed for continued compliance.
Our Policies (in relation to slavery and human trafficking).
We are committed to doing the right thing by ensuring we respect human rights and the environment.
A key requirement of our FSC accreditation is demonstrating full compliance with the FSC Core Labour Standard, which sets out expectations for the abolition of child labour, the elimination
of all forms of forced labour, the prevention of discrimination in employment, and the protection of workers' freedom of association and right to collective bargaining.
The following policies are available to all staff through our intranet:
Modern Slavery Policy,
Equality and Diversity Policy,
Speak up Policy,
Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy,
Bullying and Harassment Policy.
Due Diligence within our supply chains.
Wherever possible, we will select suppliers that hold FSC accreditation, ensuring they also meet the FSC Core Labour Standard.
Where it is not possible to align with FSC suppliers, we will carry out further due diligence to satisfy ourselves that they are not engaged in modern slavery or human trafficking. This due
diligence includes a paper-based assessment and wherever possible supplier visits. We try to choose suppliers whose values align with our family values and aim to build up long term
partnerships based on trust and honesty rather than transactional based relationships.
Purchasing contracts are issued with the condition that they can be cancelled if evidence comes to light to show illegal or unethical practices are taking place.
Risk assessment and management.
This year, one of our first priorities is to formalise our existing practices to identify areas for improvement in our identification of high-risk areas. This will take the form of reviewing tier 1
suppliers against key modern slavery risk indicators so that they can be categorised into high, medium and low risk groups.
We will then engage with those displaying higher levels of risk in order to provide further information to determine whether appropriate policies and procedures are in place to manage
these risks. If we find any deficiercies, we will suspend orders whilst we work with these suppliers to put in place the policies and procedures that will allow them to manage the risk. If
this is not possible, we will end our relationship with this supplier.
Effective action taken to address modern slavery.
Our current policies have not identified any issues but will continue to monitor this.
Training on modern slavery and trafficking.
All line managers and anyone involved with purchasing are required to undertake mandatory slavery awareness training.
