What are Kiln Dried Logs?
Kiln-dried logs are simply logs that have gone through a mechanised drying process within a kiln.
How Does Kiln Drying Actually Make Logs Drier?
Internal moisture is the enemy when it comes to your firewood. So the more internal moisture, the less efficient and pure the burn. Commercial kilns produce scorching heat, removing the majority of the water and impurities within individual logs. The drying process can run for 4 or even 6 days – pumping out 70°C temps. After this say hello to your kiln dried logs.

The Benefits of Kiln Dried Logs
These types of logs have a plethora of benefits compared to seasoned firewood. Check out the breakdown.
- Burn Ready - There’s no messing about when it comes to kiln dried logs. It’s plug and play straight away. Just pop them in the fireplace, stove or firepit and your good to go.
- Easy to Light - Kiln dried logs light up with minimal effort. How? Well there are a lot drier on the inside – ahem sub 20% internal moisture levels.
- Experience a Cleaner, Longer Burn With More Control - Kiln-dried logs deliver a cleaner burn due to the low levels of moisture within each log. So if you’re burning kiln dried wood in a wood-burning or multi-fuel stove, you won’t need to worry about excess soot and tar blocking up your flue. And as the logs have a uniform moisture level, you know that each will behave in pretty much the same way, giving you more control.
- Mould & Insects Are Destroyed During The Kiln Dry - Kiln drying kills off pesky insects and mould so your logs will be healthy and good to go. Contaminated logs can infect other logs in your pile – so you can have peace of mind too knowing your stash will stay on point.
- Kiln Dried Logs Are More Ethical - Kiln drying delivers structure and consistency to the production process, meaning less wood is wasted compared to other methods of providing firewood. Also, did you know that kiln dried wood is only sourced when it’s needed, equaling less wastage.

Fabulous Four Winter Heating Hacks
- Turn Down The Thermostat - Take a little strain off your heating system.
- Seal Up Drafts - Unsealed cracks or unaddressed drafts allow loads of that lovely heated air to escape into the cold, as well as letting the cold air into your bubble. Add these up and we get inefficiency and money lost. Check for gaps throughout your home – especially under/over doorways, windows and cat or dog flaps. Then simply caulk or seal up any voids to keep your cosy levels 100 plus.
- Maintain Your Heating System - This will save you money in the long term. Keeping your heating system tiptop will reduce future repair costs and keep your heating bill lower.
- Get Yourself a Humidifier - Running your heating for extended periods tends to dry out the air, so a humidifier will add a little moisture into the mix, as well as heating up the surrounding air too.
