Binchotan Charcoal offers a unique combination of purity, power and performance. It is made from dense hardwoods, honouring the traditional, centuries old production methods that give this charcoal a rock-hard iron/metallic feel and white colouring on the charcoal.

This coal glows red hot, is flame free, virtually smoke free, odour free and burns for hours. Due to the unique high heat, food becomes quickly sealed, creating a delicious outer layer and moist tender meat.

If you are looking for the authentic ways to cook fresh foods with a hot heat, then Binchotan Charcoal will be your flavour from the fuel up

Burns hot and odour free just as advertised, really long lasting so even a small amount goes a long way. Only criticism is it’s a bit stubborn to get going. Brilliant product

This charcoal has a shiny surface like anthracite coal, compared with the dull appearance of most charcoals. The lumps are not large, more apple than egg in size. It lit readily in a chimney and burned hot. I mixed this with Marabou charcoal and I was pleased with the heat they both gave out, how they responded to a fan. This charcoal didn’t spark or give off smoke, it grilled some lamb kebabs quickly and thoroughly.
I don’t know how long it burned for because I smothered the fire after cooking.
I think this is the good stuff and I look forward to cooking chicken shish with this charcoal

Clearly great charcoal for the bbq. Some large chunks here that might need to be broken up. I hadn’t realised how difficult to light and I was only partially successful with 6+ woodies. I now see I need a starter fuel to get the Binchotan going.

Amazing charcoal, perfect for winter bbq’s. Very hot and able to maintain heat on my char griller. Large lumps and very long burn time, no smoke on lightning on a chimney. (Best way to use a chimney). No smells from the coals. I would mix with Marabu charcoal from Big K which will be my next purchase from them. Outstanding service, delivered the next day of ordering.

I bought the wrong product after and Big K were outstanding – your couldn’t fault their customer services. A simple straight collection swap. Will buy direct from them again next time.

Really happy with this product. I read it can be different to light but using in a masterbuilt gravity series I had no issues lighting first time.

There are two methods to lighting the Binchotan Charcoal

Method 1: Using Lumpwood

Create a base of lumpwood charcoal, add 3-4 Big K firelighters and light. Once the firelighters are burning, cover with additional charcoal to make a pyramid. This allows the flames to rise up from the bottom, heating the coals quickly and evenly.

After approximately 30 minutes, spread the coals out and add the Binchotan on top. Wait for a further 25-30 minutes and you're ready to start cooking.

Method 2: Chimney Starter

With a single layer of lumpwood charcoal, place the firelighters underneath and the binchotan on top in an upright position. Light the firelighters, after 15 minutes change turn the charcoal the other way up, after approximately 30 minutes, lay the briquettes out length ways in your grill.
